Dashboard speaker
#1
I bought my Mach 1 dismantled and now bought a dash speaker which I am going to install when installing the dash bord back...
Question is - where was the speaker actually located in the dash board?

I have seen a photo where a dash speaker was out of the dash and it seemed to have a mounting bracket with it - which I have not - Is the original braket needed / can I do a simple support to do the job? I think it is out of looks anyway so the functionality is the main thing - just to get it installed there.

It goes right in the center. There is a bracket for the factory one, but I put in a 4x6 and screwed it right to the dash.

Thanks for your comment.
... you mean it is above the radio in the center but below the air channels which are at the top...so it has to be behind the the three gauges I guess....
Do you know any photo of the istallation place it would help me a lot.

Is the speaker facing down or up ?

At the top behind the gauge cluster and faces up.

GReat !
Thats how I figured it has to be ! I havent fitted the air channels yet - but they are coming around the same area as the speaker , so I was a bit confused if all will fit...

the original dash mounted speaker is a mono speaker. they make a dual voice speaker replacement that fits in the original dash bracket that is a stereo speaker.

if you had the AM radio you got a mono center dash speaker
if you had the AM/FM or 8 track radio you got the stereo speakers located in the left and right doors with no speaker inside the dashboard.

i upgraded to a factory Am/FM radio and put a dual voice speaker in my original AM radio center dash speaker bracket. it required finding the proper stereo connector from a donor car, then chopping it up and making a center speaker harness for stereo sound.
the AM/FM/8track radios have a balancer slider at the bottom of the radio face plate to move the sound left or right.

Like 72H said, my 72 came with the factory am/fm and door speakers. No dash speaker. I considered putting in the 2 channel single speaker that is now available because verts have no pkg tray for Jensen 6x9 coaxls in the rear. But, there is a special fitting required to mount an original sized speaker that is not easy to find and you cannot install from the underside. You have to take the top off to install correctly. I jus use the door speakers. When the top is up. When the top is down i cant hear the speakers much.
