Dash Panel paint
#1
What is the Best match to the Original semi gloss Black paint used on the dash Bezel parts.
I got some Chrome Pinstrip today and have been playing with it, and it seems it will do the job around the Guage pods, and Dash Bezel, now I need to freshen up the Black.

any sugestions?

Hi Iyman,

You must have decided not to go and buy the reproduction dash trims for your Mustang. I know we're all not made of money, but i myself think they're the best value for money in the long run.

In regards the black paint for your dash touch up, i'm sorry that i can't advise you on American products as they differ from what we have available here in Australia to some degree.

However, the basics still apply. For example, will you be doing the painting yourself? If so, will you be spraypainting with something like a pressure pak spray can or a spraygun? Will you choose lacquer finish or 2pak finish for more durability? What brand or type of paint will you choose so that the gloss level matches the original Ford dash finish?

All those questions play an important part in achieving the correct finish end result. Some might say, who cares, just buy a pressure pak can of semi gloss or matt black and start shooting. How fussy you want to be is up to you.

Maybe, other forum members could chime in and advise on product & product brands for you to help you out as well.

Hope it all works out,

I can do either spray can or spray gun.
I like to get the gloss as close to the factory finish.

As I recall it's a charcoal black, not true black. Think Grey- Black. Maybe Don at OMS has seen what works best.

Make sure you buy enough to finish the job. I've found out if you run out of spray can before you finish, by the time you procure another can of spray, it doesn't necessarily match the initial work. If you go gun, you'll be fine as far as mixing up enough.

I did the samething by the glove box where the paint was wareing out, but that a lot of model car paint I would need to do the whole dash.. Smile

I was going to buy a few diffrent paints and spray them on to a peice of plastic then try and match it up.

This is the paint I used and came out great!
If you look close at an original dash you will see some metallic in it. This paint matches it perfectly. Just make sure to shake the can often.
