Dash lighting issues
I am having some issues with my Dash Illumination wiring.  When I drive at night the dash lights will go on and off intermittently coinciding with road bumps.  So I get a jiggle in the car, the lights go on and off.

I am going to pull the cluster at some point this weekend and see what I can see.  I was just wondering if anyone who has had a similar issue has any input on the typical places I should be looking for trouble.   Of course I will check all the wiring.  I suppose it could also be an issue with the PC Film.

Thanks for any help!
Do all of the lights on the dash lamp circuits go out (e.g. ignition, heater, wipers)? If so, I'd rule out the dash cluster and focus upon the fuse box; if those lamps don't go out, I'd focus upon the dash cluster connector and circuit card.

Yes they ALL Go out.  I also noticed that with the door open even the dome light goes out as well.

So most likely it could be the wire connection that the fuse attaches to in the fuse box?
Dome light is on different circuit than dash lamps. Could be that the fuse clips are not contacting the fuses tightly, corrosion, etc. Same reason for the dome/courtesy lights when the door is open: power for that goes to lowermost right side fuse.
Dash lamps are smallest fuse in physical size.

Inspect your fuse box closely.

How easy/difficult is it to get to and remove the fuse box?

I take it that this is what it looks like?

Is it secured to the car with that one large central bolt?
So I was just looking thru some of my pictures and I dont have a really good picture of it, but I think I may have spotted the problem.  Yep, someone did some ghetto engineering it looks like.

So it seems like its just a matter of finding the correct type of fuse and replacing it.  Hopefully the parts stores carry these still.

Also is this relay/flasher supposed to be just hanging there?

That's a SFE 4 fuse. What's the difference between the two fuse boxes? They are not the same, correct?

that's awesome..................you have a 4 amp fuse that kept blowing so they crammed a 10 amp fuse in and probably push aluminum foil in there too to make the contact..........hahahahhaahhahahah I love people, they keep thinking of new ways to risk death. I know these fuses as BUS fuses, and to be fair midlife is your expert source for electrical wiring information. However I can almost guarantee you that there is a wiring problem that caused the 4 amp fuse to blow all the time and the owner thought that just putting that 10 amp was the fix. Most likely its a damaged (missing sheath, heavily crimped) wire on that circuit somewhere where the car was hit or it passes through unprotected metal.
im going to have to deal with this. lol I wonder if the parts stores even carry these glass fuses anymore.
