Crack in the door panel - how to repair?
#1
Hi guys,

I have a crack in the arm rest where the elbow meets usually the door panel in cruising modus. All of my interior is in a very good condition an the rest of the panels looks very good so I don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars for a not so detailed copy because of a crack on one spot.

Do you have some ideas how to fis that?

What about the 3M-kits?

Hi Tim,

I am no expert when it comes to vinyl repair, but from what i know, the repair kits can work , but require skill and practice to some degree, to get a good finished result.

I assume your door is a deluxe panel with built in armrest. The vinyl is very flexible around that area, and that can cause problems as well. Colour matching your repair can be tricky too.

If it were me, i would spend the money and get a vinyl repair pro to do the job for the best finished results. Well worth it. My deluxe door pads on my '73 Convertible were original white ones, and the armrests were completely shot, and the vinyl had yellowed badly over the years, so i ended up getting replacements.

+1 to Austin vert. Good advice. The only patched ones I've seen that the owner isn't a shamed of were done by pros. The vinyl kits sold by parts houses are not worth the money or time. I have tried every new one for the last twenty years. Dr. Vinyl the franchise that I have seen service the Cadillac dealers used cars does undetectable work. I'd do that or wait for money for the new ones. We are very lucky now. We couldn't get repo parts for our big cars until the last ten years or so.

Check with local used car dealers to see who does that type of repair in you area. Some of those guys can fix it so well even you won't be able to see it.

Hi guys,

yes, sorry, forgot to mention it, it is a deluxe panel.

So I conclude from you that it is better and more satisfying to let it done by a pro, ok, I see that.

And if I decide to get new ones and keep my originals for restoring which ones would you reccomend? A lot of them are looking one-colored or too dark...

These are from Don of Ohio Mustang, they are looking good - anyone tried them?

I used these on my rebuild and found no issues with them. My originals were beyond repair and was glad that these were available.

Tim,

Yes, my paint colour is Gold Glow.

I can't comment on Don's door panels as i know nothing about them as a product, but i think Don stands behind the products he sells which always means a lot to the customers.

I bought mine from Dash's Direct America and did not like them at all for bad fitting issues.

@greg:

Gold glow is cool - mine was originally this color too and he will be in that color again sometime Smile
