Are you talking about the top well where the top goes into? What middle bar? The steel rod that is in the well that is just weight to keep it down?

What does this bar lool like and where does it go ?  I have these pieces that I can't remember where they go, or if they are even from the Mustang.  Huh

I have been moving them around the garage for 10 years. I have also always wondered why my top well always blows up if i drive fast with the top up and the windows down. I've been trying to think of what to put in there to keep it down for a long time and just have never got around to it. i didn't know that I am obviously missing a part, I just figerreed it was a design flaw, or that i was driving too fast. If these are not for this and anyone know shat they are I would be grateful.

LOL, 10 years?
I will go to garage and get some pics. I will measure one of the rods. They actually tie to part of the trunk to keep the top well in place or in shape. I thought there was only one but will see.
I have never got a solid answer on what colors the well came in tops were either black or white but do not know about the well. Have one that is white and one that is black.

Ok got you some pictures. Most people do not know where they go either if they got the car in pieces. There are actually 8 other pieces you need to install. There are three strap clamps that hold the shorter front rod onto the back of the rear seat partition with screws. Then there are two springs that hold the rear longer rod in place to keep the package tray or top well in shape.
Once you have the springs on and the clamps on you go wrap the vinyl over the rear seat partition and put the stainless strip across that the cover for the top when down fits in.
Here are some pictures showing the measurements of the rods in inches and a picture of one of the springs so that you know what you are looking for.
Looks a lot better when held in place.
Hope you have the clips and springs if not should be easy to make some clips and find a tension spring at hardware. Just keeps it from rattling around.
Cheers,
David
