Console Clock Wiring
#1
Good Evening,

My '72 vert came with a the short center console and I am replacing it with the full console. I have the clock but not the clock wiring. Does anyone have a spare one I could purchase and any insight as to how difficult it is to install?

Many thanks!

I swapped from a short console to full length last year. My console came with the wiring harness which was incredibly easy to wire. It's a simple plug connector into your dash wiring on one end and the other end has the ashtray light, 2 ea clock lights, 12V BAT for clock and ground for clock (and lights). I'd be comfortable wiring it separately but only if you have no other option. I didn't see any on Ebay or CJPonyParts for sale, but check with Don at OMS.

Perfect...that sounds easier than I thought. I found this harness online. Is this what yours looks like?

Thanks for the quick help! This forum rocks!

I have a spare harness, but it doesn't have the light for the ash tray. Send me a PM if you're interested.

That's exactly what mine looks like. Cougar console and wiring was the same as the Mustangs.

Another small tidbit:
I also run a 3.5mm audio jack from the AUX output of my radio under the console alongside the wiring. I drilled a hole in the ashtray, pushed in a rubber grommet and run the line through there. My Mp3 player fits inside the ashtray and is plugged in. With the ashtray closed you can't tell at all that I'm playing the MP3 Player.
The ashtray light does nothing for me (although mine works). If Doug has one cheaper (without ashtray light) I'd go with that personally.

Nope, don't have that in stock. I could easily re-create it if someone would loan me theirs for a template.

The one with ash tray light is for a cougar
Mustangs did not have the ash tray light
Doug the dog's harness is correct for a Mustang

Thanks for your input and thought you put into it.

Ok...we can put a fork in it, this one's done. Thanks for the harness Doug, as they say, the check is in the mail!

Also thanks to everyone for the good ideas. I especially like the idea for the MP3 (or other device) hook up in the ashtray.

Cheers!

John
