Chuck- 429/460 Stealth Intake Q

Hi Chuck-

I saw that you recommended against the Weiand Stealth intake on a recent thread, care to share your thoughts?

I have one I was planning on running on my 460 crate motor which has a Victor on it now. Were you basing it on the rest of the combo?

I have no experience with that intake on a 385 series engine so I'm of no help on the matter, sorry. Chuck

Thanks for the info, I picked up the CJ -port Stealth based on it's reasonable price and favorable reviews. Then I thought I saw where someone had recommended against it and was curious why.

I have an older FRPP F460 crate engine with a Victor on it, and was thinking that the single plane might be a bit too much for the heavy Mustang, hence the dual plane intake change...

As far as Ram Air hood clearance, check this out:

The Stealth is a racing dual plane. It has large runner volume and doesn't not have good part throttle performance.

If you search on the 460Ford site you will find more than a few posts advising that the Stealth is a poor choice for a mild build in a street car.

The Edelbrock Air Gap is considered to be the best street dual plan but can often cause hood clearance issues. The Edelbrock Performer RPM is a close second and is a little shorter. That's what I use.

73 conv. 460, D0VE large valve heads, Performer RPM manifold, Voodoo 227/233 cam, Holley 950 HP carb, C6 trans, 3.25 trak-loc.

I run one it rocks, its a nice place between a regular dual plane and a single plane
