Car of the Month Contest
#1
I'm thinking about starting a Car of the Month contest for 71-73 Mustang owners! But I want your feedback first.

How it would work is 2 weeks of submissions and 2 weeks of voting. The winner gets a month on the Portal home page as well as a spot in the official 7173Mustangs.com Calendar plus a little trophy icon for their profile!

I think it would be a lot of fun but only if it is treated as a fun type thing. I don't want any hard feelings or sore losers over any contests. What do you guys think? There is a lot of similarity in our cars and I know the contests will be close! I am willing to do it if everyone thinks we can do it in a fun manner.

I would also look for someone to manage the contest (existing mod or member) Pm me if you are interested. The COTM Mod will need to have a little knowledge of posting images and moving threads, but nothing to complicated.

So, before we go forth with this idea...lets hear some input. Big Grin

Yeah, thing is...there is 12 winners a year and lots of years ahead! Each car can only win once. So everybody would have a chance to win! I just don't want it to turn into a popularity contest, that's what I'm afraid of.

I like the idea, rocketfoot, and I'll gladly vote for a car each month. But I can't help but think that you (or whomever takes this on) largely will be reviewing the same group of submissions each month to put up for vote. I'm reminded of the year my family won the neighborhood holiday decorating contest. While we did a nice job, it was more about our turn than any real achievement. Now that I've written that, I DO believe that all of our cars deserve their turn in the spotlight (although mine is nowhere near ready for her close-up).

Great job with innovation on the site!

Instead of a "car of the month" maybe a "spotlight" car of the month. where there is no voting just members rides. The owner could put a little piece together with details on the car and pics. Just a thought, kinda like a high lighted garage. That way no matter the stage of the car you can still play, and share your hard work.

All good feedback! I like the Spotlight idea a little better than voting. But we will still need to figure out a way to select each month's spotlight car.

I could install a "LIKE" button in a new Spotlight forum and everyone can submit a new thread with some photos and specs about their car. Probably be 2 subforums, one for drivers and one for builds as mentioned. Then everyone can look at them and click the like buttons. this way, we're really not voting, just bumping a car to the top each month. Once the car is selected as car of the month, the entire thread will be moved to the hall of fame sub forum and the other cars are set for the next month's choice!

I think that will work! I might try setting up the forums and the LIKE plugin to see how it will work. But please continue posting your ideas...more feedback is needed. Cool

Sounds like a fun idea either way it develops. I agree the emphasis needs to be on fun.

I would be disappointed to see the friendly atmosphere that has developed here damaged.
