Hi this part was loose amongst the box of bits with the car .any idea where it goes? Is it a dash part

Could be a muffler bearing a close up picture would be better to help identify

I believe that is the 1971-3 Mustang Fuse Block Bracket it attaches to Brake Pedal Assembly under the dash. When you are sitting in the car (for reference) it attaches to the right side of the Brake Pedal Assembly.

Thanks so much. I am at the stage of putting the dash in. I have just attached the brake pedal box so perfect timing. Cheers Steve.

It is for sure the bracket that holds the wire harness and fuse block. It should be bare steel I usually spray with satin clear to prevent rust and look bare. Here is a couple pics.
