Caltrac Bars with stock replacement leaf springs
#1
Any body use Caltrac bars with stock replacement leaf springs? I needed new leaf springs and wanted to replace the hokey homemade traction bars while I was at it. With a set of Caltrac bars and a new set of stock replacement leaf springs from The Mustang Barn, it looks to me like I have everything I need for this project....Do I? Anybody have some tips and/or things to look/prepare for or expect out of this set up?

Caltrac's the best source for your answer, but I think they will tell you they perform best with the Caltrac split monoleafs.

I'm running them with 5 leaf 195 lb springs and while I launch straight, I don't get the hook up I want (yet). I think the springs are part of it, but I haven't upgraded my shocks yet and I have too much power. I'm currently on 315/35/17s Nitto Extreme drag radials, but will be changing to Hoosier's bias ply drag radials when I get to the track this spring.

While Caltrac doesn't really give a lot of information about their split mono leafs, I have learned that they save about 60 pounds of weight and that the front portion is very stiff, whereas the rear section provides the bulk of the suspension. Also a change of the rear portion can change ride height.
