Best place to buy Classic Automotive Paint?
#1
This is for my 1973 Fastback that I am currently restoring/building. I believe my Fastback had the original color of Medium Aqua, which I was told is rare. I would like to bring it back in the original color but my only set back is the place to buy the exact (or extremely close) original Medium Aqua paint from. Anybody know of quality paint places that I can buy the original paint from?

This is what I'm going for - the original Medium Aqua Blue.

Your not going to find the Original paint per say..If you did happen to find a can I doubt it would be good..But all is not lost ! Any auto body paint supplier should be able to mix your exact color..Your going to have to chose though between whats called a single stage color (most closet to original ) or a modern 2 stage base coat clear coat..You have 3 choices of product
single stage acrylic enamel (the closet to original ) single stage urethane or 2 stage urethane...I think your gonna have a rough time finding the first since most single stage paints these days are urethane
Heres some great info for you

Just to be clear - I am not spraying the Fastback from a rattle can, I have my own paint gun set up. I've been thinking about chipping a part of the original paint from the under side of my hood and bringing it to a good paint guy that can mix it for me. I want a paint that will last a very long time, heck even a lifetime. Thanks for the link - I'll check it out when I have time!

I know that..Your post made it sound like you were looking for o.e.m ford paint or acrylic enamel from 30 years ago..If you have your own guns etc..Then any auto body supply house will mix the color..just give them the color code off the door..If you want the best..Then either Sikkins , Spies Hecker, or Glasirut for product..Do a base coat clear coat paint job..Make sure your sitting down when they give you the bill...Just to buy the product..

Gotcha. I'll take a look in those brands and see how much they cost. Thanks for the information again.

If you use DuPont, stay away from nason...Chroma base is the minimum in the DuPont line as far as I am concerned and hot hues is top of the line but can be a pain to spray...just saying...Chroma does not require a catalyst and some suppliers will tell you fulbase and hot hues will work without it as well but they will rob hardener from the clear and could cause problems.

Hmm, this is interesting. I'll have to see what they offer. Thanks for the advice bud!
