That thing in any practical sense isn't worth more than $300 without the rear end (and the value of the rear end plummets when paired with this shell), when you consider what many of us have picked up in the $1,000-$1,800 range - much better starters than this, if nothing else.

Did he give you his preferred price, and suggested you haggle from there, or did he clam up? I wouldn't even try making an offer without working off a guide from the seller. Doing so is the surest way to:

A. Piss off the seller
B. Make you shell out more than you wanted to.

Be careful how you bargain. I've bought and sold quite a few 1960's and 1970's classic racing bicycles ($750-$2,500 range) and sellers act the same way with bike stuff. Any offer you make out of the blue is an insult, unless you can work with what they provide as a starting figure.

He said he would sell for 500, comes with rear axle, floors look good only a little bit of surface rust on the floors, quarters look good.
