73 Mach 1 mirror anchors
#1
My replacement door has had the anchors ripped out that the mirror screws to. I bought new AMK anchors but it appears they need to be pulled from the backside to squish the anchor. Anybody replaced them before? And is there a special tool I need to do the job right? Here's the door and the anchor/screw I have. BTW I just noticed I have the screw in the wrong end of the anchor. Sorry.

You need a riv-nut tool. It works on the same concept as a pop rivet tool except it has interchangeable studs that thread into the insert. As you squeeze the handles, the barrel of the nut insert compresses and expands locking it in place.

Save yourself some grief..Those holes are enlarged need to be tapped down flat then migged & redrilled..to use the stock anchors..I never liked that set up..Use some well nuts instead...You may have to install from the backside tack in with c.a. to hold in place

c.a. = contact adhesive? If so, do you prefer one brand better than another?

Thanks,

Ray

weld up all the holes and leave the mirrors off, they just add drag and no one is supposed to be passing you

As Qcode said flatten the hole and get them back to normal size and use a wrench drive rivit nut install tool. They sell them at Mcmaster.com. That is what I used and it worked just like factory install. http://www.mcmaster.com/#rivet-nut-insta...ls/=ph5hl3
Cost about 30 bucks.
