Ok folks

After several years of sitting on this project I have got the car stripped of all parts, wires, and everything else that can be removed.

I have a soda blast quote of $900 with some rust spot fixes as needed for under $1,000. I may try to do those myself though.

Then its welding in new panels such as qtrs, tail light assembly, front engine area pieces and wheel liners.

I'm starting to get excited about this again.

Man, that is quite a project. I hereby promise to avoid complaining about suspension rebuild frustrations and lengthy To-Do lists as much as possible.

Please keep us posted. It actually sounds like some fun.

Its a bigger project than I expected to take on, but you klnow how easy it is when you remove a part. All of a sudden you are removing what is under it...then teh next...the next...and so on... eventually you end up like this.

Been there--I started a valve job on my '69 Mach 8 years ago, after taking it off the rotisserie, I knew I got carried away...

how well does the soda blast strip the car down? I have been trying to decide between that or an acid dip for my car when the time comes.

I don't know. I've heard it both ways. some say that a s blast AND a dip are essential if the car has any rust. Others say that a blast is sufficient. I know I can get my blast for $900 where the combo will cost $2300. Not sure if it is worth it to dip.

Soda blast will remove all paint layers and rust. It will not remove Bondo, fiberglass or sound deadener. The plus to soda is that you do not remove glass or chrome. it is very gentile.
