71 vert dual exhaust, longtube header, 302 2V, reinforcement torque plate

Hi all exhaust experts

what I know NO dual exhaust kits are available for convertibles (maybe the reason that not enough numbers of vert cars existing?) as the clearance above the reinforcement plate is reduced.

I would like to install (without lowering or modifying the torque plate)

2 1/2 system, if possible in stainless (except header), no X or H, tailpipes below valance
longtube Hedman Elite Heavy-Duty Headers 83308
or
Flowtech Headers 32100FLT
Flowmaster Stainless Steel Super 44 Series Mufflers 842546
Flowmaster U-Fit Dual Pipe Kits 815936
some Flowmaster 45degree bends MB250450
Exhaust Tips SUM-690042-1
(for me in Europe the easiest way to order is summit, where alle mentioned parts are available)

is it possible to realize or are there some doubts regarding:
header- is enough clearance (to torque plate)
does longtube header fit for verts at all?
in case one of you has experience- which of the 2 headers will fit better
2 1/2 system clearance problems or better a 2 1/4
does the pipe kit

recommendations for hangers in stainless?

my 2nd choice instead stainless universal kit would be a
Heartthrob Exhaust Kit for 64-73 Mustang from

where I am not sure it fits for verts (and the muffler should be changed)

I purchased two factory style exhaust systems from this company for my '71 & 73 convertibles. Good quality, easily fit within the additional vert support plate. Not sure about the shipping to your location though... I had mine shipped to Buffalo and then drove across the border to bring them home the rest of the way...

I too purchased a system from them for my coupe and fit was perfect.

73 Grandé H Code. Headman long tube headers, T-5 Transmission, 3.70 Traclok, Lowered 1" all around, Aussie 2v heads w/ 2.19 intake, 1.71 exhaust, screw in studs, full roller cam 608/612 lift 280/281 duration LSA 112, Quick Fuel 750 CFM double pumper, AirGap intake.

Precision exhaust is quality for sure but when I contacted them they said no stainless anything.

71-73 Mustangs never die, they just go faster!

I bought a crashed 72 vert with a brand new Pypes dual exhaust 2 1/2". They did put two small spacers above the reinforcement plate to give more clearance , maybe 1/2". Had ceramic coated long tube and 3 speed manual.
I also have a 73 vert with long tube headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust. It does not have a spacer. I think it was Magnaflow I did not install it was in the car already. It is a C-4 car.
Both systems were welded in. I got the one out of the crashed car in one piece but to go back in a car will have to drop the rear end.

Mustangs Unlimited has a system that supposedly was reverse-engineered from a factory Ford system on a Q-code convertible. I would talk to them and verify that info. It's 2 1/4" and aluminized steel, but unless you plan on running it in the snow, it'll be fine for decades.

If you're running a 302 or 351W, I recommend the reproduction Tri-Y headers. They take up very little room and have a unique sound that is distinctly "Mustang".

You'll still need to fab the pipes from the collector to the head pipe, but that should be easily accomplished locally.

do you like the sound of x pipe?
I would prefer dual system without any connection between 2x4 cylinder as typical V8 sound will be smoothing

I would think so. I was friendly with Kevin, who worked there for 20+ years and he stated it was a direct reproduction of a factory exhaust.
