71-72 sport lamp lens problem
#1
I was cleaning my grille and sport lamps last night, and I found that the drivers side sport lamp lens was loose. At first I thought the screws came loose or something, but no. The glue actually let go. Once again these AWESOME aftermarket parts fail to deliver as promised. I ended up re-gluing it with some clear silicone adhesive. Also the lights are starting to melt the housings so I am going to have to go to LED's to keep that from getting any worse!! At least there is always something to do!!

The aftermarket lights are pretty crappy. The guy I restored the yellow mach 1 for bought the turn signal light housings complete from CJ pony parts. I installed them, they looked nice and seemed to work. Well go to find out they had them wired up backwards and when the running lights were on it lit up both filaments and you didn't have turn signals with the headlights on. Turn signals only worked with headlights off.  I ended up cutting the harness and rewiring them to work.  Big pain in the ass.

Hi Omie01, HURRY and take advantage of the 20% discount you can get from Hi-Po Parts, using the code GC20OFF18. Heads up, the SPORT LAMP  SMD bulbs are a SPECIAL BULB. The have TWO contacts, but one is a ground!! I just got all of my old bulbs replaced with SMD's, but I had to wait a while for these unique SMD's to come in (to Hi-Po) and now I have every bulb replaced with awesome results. There have been many posts on this recently, but if you have questions, go to www.HiPo Parts.com and sent Bill a message. I have found Bill to be excellent to work with and he will suggest and help with your needs.

Hi
I hope all READ Geoff's comments on THOSE BULBS!!! They are different than any other bulb on our cars AND NOT something that you can get at Walmart or Amazon . (I have a few prototypes here, and though I was OK with them BILL didn't think they were "up to snuff". NOW having said that I'm of the opinion that the sport lights AREN'T of a design that "allows" for massive lumins - and this may have had to do with DOT approval as not to be confused with turn signals/amber fogs.

I went through the same thing with the valance lights, I thought I did something wrong with the wiring, until I figured out they were wired backwards! So frustrating!!

Talking of wired backwards and NOT the fault of the LED/SMD grounded turn signal flashers Hi-Po sell and are needed for turn signals to work correctly, but how about this for frustration. As mentioned, I just replaced all my bulbs, installed the new flasher and nothing!! No turn signals working. Okay, what's wrong. The flashers are 2 blade in an L shape so can't be plugged in wrong. The electronic flasher I took out worked with reg bulbs, so circuit is good. So, I emailed Bill. After a bit of convincing, this is what I learned; Ordinary flashers are NOT polarity specific, so they work as long as there is power. LED/SMD flashers ARE polarity specific. So why didn't mine work? To cut the story, I made up a couple of short jumper leads and switched them in the factory plug and they worked!! WHY, because the FACTORY plug was wired BACKWARDS. Bill told me he has only encountered this 3 times in hundreds of sales. And I have one of the 3!!
While I have my dash apart for the installation of an AM-FM radio along with new wiring as my car only had an AM, I'm going to correct that plug, so in future, it won't be an issue. Let this be a "heads up" to others who may be frustrated by why the LED/SMD flashers don't work.

I really want to convert my turn signals to LED but have always shied away because of the flasher unit issues.
