65 through 78 work truck ideas
#1
Totalled has a NICE truck. All my customers drive trucks... I dont want to go in debt for another vechicle...kiddo is turning 15 then will give her the old Honda and wifey gets my 2010, This means I'll have 5 autos!!!

I'm toying with the idea of a truck and 6 cyl with a five spd for gas miles so I can convince myself i can have a cool work truck.... what are good 5spd donors.

I've already located an El Camino...but wanted to give Ford one last shot. What cool truck combos have ya'll (that's southern for YOUZGUYZ) seen

If I were your customer I would think it is cool to daily drive an old truck. You could run a 250 or 300 I-6 forever. Drop in a T5 from a 6cyl Mustang (pleantyful since everyone wants a V8 T5) and a 3:25 or 3:50 gear and you'd be set for style and economy. Plus it would hold it's value and not depreciate like a late model whatever commuter car.

Actually, that's a really cool idea. You have me thinking about my next commuter car could be an old Ford truck. I like it. Wink

Bumpside (67-72) with a 300/5 speed from a 92-97 F-150. They were fuel injected, and made great power and economy. Heck, you could just get the 92-97 and drive that. Those were also great trucks.

hmmm that v-6 with fuel injection and the five speed in oh lets say a cool 65 (which I use to have) would be cool. That 6 cyl ...would have been NICE with a 5spd.

Looking at the final drive it looks like the .78 final would get in the High 20's ??? if my cyphr'n is correct.

I completely agree about the 92-97 300 I-6 trucks. Cheap to purchase & cheap to operate.

OHhhhh I really love the 67's like yours up through the 72!!!!

I had a 93 with the 5spd but it was 4wheel drive... best I could get was 15 being VERY gentle going DOWN HILLBig Grin

that being said this wouldnt be a hauler so I'd set it up for light class.

The 250 & 300 c.i. Ford engines are inline sixes which produce a good amount of torque. The .78 5th gear certainly helps the economy but you have to look at the rear gear and tire size. I think mid 20's with the right rear gear & tire size behind a 300/T5 combo. Possibly high 20's if you drive it easy on the highway. On the highway a truck is like pushing a garage door down the road. Sick your hand out the window at 70mph, now imagine holding a garage door against the 70mph wind...that's what the engine has to do when you drive a truck on the highway.

LOL a garage door? HA! yeah I agree... I would really look at the final gear ratio... and tires. Im liking the idea. I liked my old truck so much

Yeah, me too. I'm preaching to the choir tho. My excursion is an even bigger garage door. Lol I can't afford or have room at this point for one in my stable. I'll live vicariously through you and Totaled's efforts!

Keep us posted.
