4v 351C Small valve heads vs large valve
#1
Some pictures and the slight differences i noticed between my late 4v original heads and some open chambered cobrajet heads...Top pic...71 cobrajet valve...below that my late model 4v head...You can see how much room is between the head and valve on my late model 4v heads....Bottom pics are some casting markings...And how my late models are stamped 4 on the front just like regular 4v and cobrajet heads.

Kinda diff...Im sure ford was going emissions nuts and tring to make them be a little between a 4v and a 2v..still has the big gulpers...they always preformed well for me...Even know they are not worth much..pretty rare heads it seems.

I really like the open chamber 351CJ heads..The work extremely well with large valves & shaving a tad to bump compression..They are rare & I was lucky to have a set fall into my lap..Using them in my current motor build..At the machine shop now getting redone with all Manley one piece hardened tip valves

You should hunt unicorns - heard about them but never saw one in real life and I have been through many many 4V Clevelands.

lol...Ya...Good thing i did not order a set of 2.19 valves for it...I was going to rebuild them..But i ran into the 71 open chambered all rebuilt and read for dirt cheap..Figured i could put my originals away..When i got them home and was checking the year codes and such..I started to noticed a diffrence in the valve size between my 4v late model heads...I was suprized..I thought these kinda heads where just a myth my self...I thought i had regular 4v heads.

If other late model guys chime in and have your heads handy check them out...Wondering when this started and stopped too..lol

I think it is only started in late 73 production. I have a set of 2V heads with the 2.19 intake 1.71 exhaust valves that I acquired as part of a craigslist purchase years ago. Supposedly came from the estate of a old dirt track driver.

I see nothing bad about the open chamber heads and I have a spare set of nice castings on my storage rack

I have a set of CJ open heads, been through the shop, cleaned and checked(magna fluxed), minus the valves. What do you guys think they are worth?

If someone paid 250 for a set of stripped open chamber 4V heads, I would think he paid a fair price. I wouldn't sell mine for that, but I suspect that is about what the market will bear at this time. At 350, I'd feel it was too steep as the cost to build when added onto the 350 just gets too close to the cost of aluminum heads that are already built.

Double check the dates too...Some cobrajet heads are rarer than others...Early 71 cobrajet heads are impossible to find ...and i agree with jeff on market price...stripped 250-300 is a good going price...with good valves and springs and all..600-700 seems to be a fair market price...But i think the price will go up on them as our cars get more popular...I'm planning on holding on to my sets too.
