Do you know the casting number of the heads that are on it? The 429 has a lot of performance potential. The specific issue with a 72 429 is the heads. The only year Ford used an open chamber head on a 429/460 was in 72 and they are detonation prone. The casting number will be D2VE for a stock 72 open chamber head. They are the least desirable head and aren't recommended for a street build.

73 conv. 460, D0VE large valve heads, Performer RPM manifold, Voodoo 227/233 cam, Holley 950 HP carb, C6 trans, 3.25 trak-loc.

The ones with the DOVE heads are a nice find . You'll also want the 429 mustang motor mounts ( Crites performance makes some ) , a bigger radiator , front springs and a 9 inch rear .

460 , Edelbrock Performer carb. + intake , 204 / 214 cam , Pertronix Flamethrower 2 billet dizzy + coil , Crites long tubes , C6 .

I would say that is a good deal, especially with the inclusion of the C6.

Keep in mind that a 429 shares the same block, heads, camshaft, ect as the 460. The major difference is in the stroke of the crankshaft.

One of the premiere sites for information on 460 Fords is at 460 Ford.com. I have attached a very good link that speaks to making horsepower with the LIMA (429/460) motors

Hope this helps!

Again, dependent upon what you want from the motor, you got a good deal. Keep in mind that the intake is a 2V, so if you are looking at performance, that will have to goSmile.

That D1VE 2-bolted main block has been known to handle 750-800 HP without problems. With the stated mileage, there shouldn't be too much of a problem with the block but you should be able to determine more once you tear it down.

As previously stated or inferred, those D0VE heads can make great power.

Hope this helps!

Kind of interesting that it is a 2V. I believe that was a Mercury only thing which was only available for a few years. Not 100% sure though.
