You didn't have to pull the heads to find a bent pushrod. Any idea how it happened?

Heads were coming off, because cylinder #2 failed a compression test (40-60 max) so pulled the heads for the up and coming valve job:

As to how...poor assembly on a previous rebuild? I don't know. What it didn't do was hit the piston and inspecting cylinder walls and they are in surprisingly great shape.

(Also found the broken motor mount).

So going to have the following done:

Bronze valve guides
Stainless 1 piece valves with good quality MATCHING retainers
3 angle valve job
Need the springs matched to cam (stock) and set up to proper height
Hardened seats

Thanks

I bent my pushrods on a power launch with a stock 2bbl cleveland. The motor was old and tired though.

Well they will be tougher when they get rebuilt.

Pardon my ignorance, but how will the motor work with a bent push rod? Or it just gets stuck and keeps the valve open? I cant imagine how will the engine rotate without damaging something else.

The cam still turns and the piston goes up and down, valve just doesn't open.

Thanks

You'll need a LOT more of those if you want to run FE heads & intake on your Cleveland block. Haha
