3-point seat-belts
#1
All, I've found a seatbelt kit at OK classic auto parts http://www.classicautopartsonlinecatalog.com

.jpg   OK_classicautoparts_seatbelts.jpg (Size: 65.14 KB / Downloads: 128)

I really like that this kit puts 3point belts in the back seat. Has anyone out there done a kit like this, or this one? Would appreciate feedback if any of you have used it.

Questions:
Where does the 3 point belt in back attach the upper belt?
Where is the rear retractor for rear?
I'm not crazy about the "big red buttons", does anyone have a better solution?

THanks for your help,
Jay

Here are some pics of a retractable seatbelt setup in my fastback - I had to put these in to get my car on the road in Australia. Under instruction from the testing engineer I drilled holes in the parcel shelf and placed a backing plate under the shelf for the retractor mechanism to bolt to. I imagine for a coupe a similar setup would work.

Also put 3-point retractables in the front too - best to buy a set with a 10 to 15 degree bias built into the mechanism (i.e. tilted mechanism because the top mounting point is further back than the bottom mounting point) - if you buy the one where the mechanism bolts 90 degrees to the floor then the belt will wear on the side as it slides in and out. You can see in the picture that my retractor is mounted on an angle.

Wow. Fantastic run-down on a seat-belt install. Thank you flatback!
Where did you buy the seat belts? Looks like you got a nice flexible upper mount for the front belts. Would like to be sure I have that, but most places you can buy these belts, they have crappy, unreliable or downright wrong pictures on the website (and none of them talk about such detailed features)

If you have a link where you bought, or name of a vendor you know has that, I would appreciate it.

Thanks so much for the thorough post. I find it very helpful.

Hi Jay, the belts were bought from an Australian company called Hemco about an hour and a half from where I live (not sure if that info will be helpful to a US resident).

http://www.hemco.com.au/seatbelts.html

Here's a more comprehensive thread from the Aussie Mustang forum where I went into more detail about the seat-belt setup, plus a few more pictures and Hemco part numbers.

There is sure to be a good US equivalent to these belts out there somewhere. The drop belts might not be needed for a coupe as the top mounting points I believe are further back so there is less of a likelihood of the belts cutting into the neck.

One more question on this.. How long is the end (short section with release button) that bolts to the hump? I have found a vendor that has 8in or 11in long.. Which is correct for the typical mustang bucket seat? There is not a console in the car.

Thanks,
Jay

From bolt centre to the clip end is 12 inches on mine. Here's a pic with the seat almost all the way back, which is where I have the seat when I drive. When I move the seat all the way forward the top end of the clip end is even with the face of the seat-back. In my opinion an 11 inch would be slightly too short, but because you don't have a console in your car then the release button would probably still be easily accessible.
