2014 Equinox
#1
My wife just bought a 2104 Chevy Equinox with the 2.4L I4...just wondering if anyone else owns one and how you like it? It seem pretty spry for a 4 banger...same engine that was in my Cobalt SS...but this vehicle does have a little more weight to pull than the Cobalt did. She was interested in MPG's since she started a new job with a small commute so hopefully this thing will do well for us!

We originally bought a 13 Escape Titanium but it had electrical system issues and kept stalling...once right in the middle of oncoming traffic at an intersection! She wouldn't drive it after that so it went back to the dealership after a whole 2 deals! The dealership wasn't impressed as you can imagine, but my wife went from zero to bitch in under 6.2 seconds and they agreed to replace it with this 2014 Equinox. We didn't have much choice as it was the only car on the lot that was equal to the escape at the moment and our trade in was already sold! But the Wifey really liked the feel of the Nox so we agreed! Now there is a 14 Tungsten Metallic Equinox 2LT AWD in my driveway! It is pretty well loaded as well, but not as much as the Titanium was!

We get the FWD version as fleet vehicles at the company I work for. I'm not in the field, so I don't get one, but they are very popular with our folks who drive a lot.

I don't blame your wife for not wanting to drive the Escape.
The Equinox are sharp looking cars.

Yeah, the Escape was nice...but Ford put their dollars in all the dazzling features! It had HID lights, interior accent lighting, panoramic sunroof, 19" wheels and so on! But the Escape's platform felt cheap and cheesy! Chevy put their money on building a solid platform! The Nox just feels more solid and rides nicer. I just wish it had a few more standard features but overall, it is set up pretty nice!

Those 2.4 always seemed to make a lot of rattling noises when they got miles on them. I observed this with customers cars at my old job.

Probably had something to do with people never changing their oil or going 10k miles "by the oil light".

Can't say for 2014 but the '11-'12's seemed to make this awful noise for only having 40k miles.

I read on the Equinox forums that the 11-12's had some issues but supposedly cleared up in the 13-14's. I hops so! But just in case, I am getting the 8 year extended warranty to cover it while I am financing! Peace of mind is worth more than the $1900 warranty!

You bet! No one wants to have to work on a car they still make payments on. I'm sure they worked all the bugs out by now. Even though I'm a ford guy that new escape is garbage. Try changing oil on a eco-boost escape and tell me how much fun you had haha!

I hear that! I have never been a Chevy guy but I gotta say, it is hard NOT to like the Equinox! I just wish it had a few more squirrels under the hood!

I have worked on a few equinox's and a terrain or two, the only bad I have seen so far is the battery is located directly above the shift linkage on the transmission so when the battery leaks, it destroys the plastic and you lose the ability to shift into a gear. This proved to be a bad deal for a 17 year old cousin who thought he was in park at the mall, gassed it, and I got to rebuild it after the crash. The only other thing I found to be strange is on the A, and B pillar there are pocket plugs marked "air bag" but I have not found one on any that I have worked on yet? Is this false advertisement, or an option that was not available on all models? In my opinion, if it is not equipped with the SRS, it should not be marked as such.
I really like the styling, but like you was not impressed with the power even from the V6.
