2003 Ford Escape
I bought this truck as a graduation present for my 16 yr old niece. She will be graduating from high school next June. There is one condition though. She must graduate with honors or she can just ride the bus.Big Grin

Outside it looks perfect and the interior is almost pristine. There is one tiny rip in the driver's seat leather and a tear in the center console. It drives perfect but I will put all new brakes on it before she gets it. Everything else will be gone over too as I want it to be safe and reliable for her. It only has 145,000 KM (88,000 miles).
The major problem with the truck is underneath. It was never undercoated and driven regularly in our salt covered winter roads. The frame has some rust through which I am repairing, plus both 1/4"s need patches put in to the wheel well arch and the dog leg. The quarter patches will be hidden underneath the plastic wheel arches so I won't need to paint match the truck. That's good as red paint is expensive.
The pics show the truck as I got it and how far I am so far.

My dad bought a 2002 escape brand new still has it. 300k+ miles and only changed oil and trans fluid, general maintenance. No major issues just the MPG's have fell a little.
2wd v6 model.

That's a great Escape. I bought a 2013 Escape for my wife in May. First car I've bought that's "loaded" - heated leather seats, etc. We love it and have taken it on several road trips since we live so far from everything (closest real airport is 165 miles away). Looking forward to its 10-year anniversary.

Matrixx, that's great to know that they will last 300K miles.
Both you and 73vertproject will never have to deal with the rust issues like we have to up here in the great white north. It snows here 11 months a year you know(Kidding of course).
73 I'm sure you will get 10+ years from yours. The 13's are a newer generation than this 03. It should be a new and improved version.

Thank you, to use her vernacular she's "totally stoked" and promises to get honors. The added bonus is that it will help her get into university with good marks. My sis isn't too thrilled though, she is the one who has to cough up the $4K a year for insurance.

I sold the truck today after doing all the work, body and mechanical. My sis and niece couldn't agree on paying the insurance so they didn't want it. The lure did work however she did graduate with honors. The new owners are very happy with the condition and should have years of trouble free motoring ahead of them.
It wasn't a money making deal but I came close to breaking even.

So what will the niece receive as her graduation present?

I can't believe they turned down a free SUV because of the insurance costs...

Let me check your shorts!

She gets NADA from me since she turned up her nose at this truck. I can understand somewhat as the insurance quote was $4K. This was also a one time offer. The next time she wants a car she can pay for it herself. I lost almost $1K on this deal and am not willing to go there again.
