Ya they're pretty close to the same, but a year apart. I hate to say it but I'm working on a 302 rebuild to put in her though. I think the 1973 250 cid was about 98 HP when it was a new engine. I'm hoping to get close to 300 HP out of the rebuilt 302.
They'll still be brothers though. Just hope this brother's balls are going to be a bit bigger, that's all. Sort of like your wife getting a boob job. She's still the same person inside.....

It's solid underneath. First thing I looked at after buying the '69 that I just sold for parts. Floor, frame, torque boxes, trunk are all in great shape. Needs some work in the two front corners. I'm going to pull the two front fenders and grill out this winter and get 'r done. The driver's door is not aligned properly. I'll fix that when I have the driver's side fender off.
Had to replace the steering box before I could get it safetied because it was leaking so bad. Picked up a good used one at Classic Cougar and Mustang. Good place for good used parts here in the Toronto area.
There were a few other small things like the back up light switch and the parking breaks. A little lubrication and they were working again. New windshield washer pump.... little stuff. Needs a clutch, which I'll do when I swap out the engine.

I'm like the 250 ci Mother Teresa! Smile... But i know what you mean... this engine instead of balls has little dots.... jeje Anyway, at least, with boob job, you are family! jeje

Enjoy the process and the car, that is all that matters!

You got that right.
I'm going to keep the 250 when I take it out. I've read that there's a lot you can do to the top end to let them breath a bit better. It's getting popular to do up the 250s. Aftermarket heads, intake and exhaust are available. Looked to be a bit pricey compared to doing the 302. I had the 302 sitting on an engine stand and you can find parts anywhere for them so I made the decision to do it. Plus I can still drive the car while I'm getting the 302 done.
I always wanted to tackle an engine rebuild myself, so now I'm doing it and learning a lot as I go. I'm not happy unless I'm learning something new.

That would be a cool ride. A hopped-up 250 with a 5 speed. A cool factor and good MPG.

Future plans; JGC steering box, Cobra brakes and... paint, interior, etc.

That is Fantastic!!... if you dare to build your engine yourself then i forgive you Tongue jeje

BTW... is your engine bay in good shape??... being that rare nowadays, is not that easy for me to have info... like pics of other engine bays to see the little details i am missing...

Even being from another year, it is really helpful... you have the exact same trans too for example... My car has some sort of a problem with the Z shaped bar that goes from the clutch pedal to the clutch itself... sorry, i dont know the name of that part in english Tongue... but if you have access to it and you have a camera arround, you can take a pic or something to compare with mine... i think mine was somehow modified Sad

Well... let's enjoy that little I6 meanwhile the main plate is being cooked! Tongue

I'll put some more pics on of the engine bay when I bought the car. It was worse looking then than it is now. I've been painting what I could as I go. Hopefully you'll see what you're talking about. If you send me a picture of what you mean on yours, I'll send you one of the same thing on mine. (Somehow that sounds dirty, but you know what I mean). I think I know what you mean. Might be tight getting a camera in there with the steering box and column running through there.
When I pull the engine I'm going to restore the whole engine bay and repaint.
