This car originally was made in December 1971 and came with the following options:
White Power Top w/Glass Backlite
FMX Cruise-O-Matic Transmission
Optional Axle Ratio
Traction-Lok Differential
F60X15 Belted Raised White Letter Tires
Convenience Group
Power Steering
Power Front Disc Brakes
Console
Appearance Protection Group
Color Keyed Racing Mirrors
Heavy Duty Battery
Power Side Windows
Magnum 500 Chrome Wheels
Competition Suspension
Metric Speedometer
Accessory Packaging
Export Label

When I got it, it had been repainted red by some previous owner. The original color was showing in some places inside the doors and all the decals (jack instructions, door tag etc) had been painted over and there was red over spray almost everywhere. The paint had orange peel and drips.
Later I was to find out that the car had also been hit several times and that the front frame rails were bent.
On the picture that shows the car the day I got it (in red) you may notice for example that there is no line between the front fender and the lower front valance. There was a half inch thick layer of Bondo! We found many such spots all over the car.
Plus it was quite a rust bucket, but by then it was to late.

But it ran fine for a few years, so ....

The car had lost some of it's original equipment over the years or some of it had been ruined, like the Magnum 500 that had been gone over with sandpaper and repainted with rim paint!
During the restoration I also got rid of some things like the complete Appearance Protection Group as I didn't like the moldings on the side of the car. The same goes for the bumper guards that came off too.
I opted for the yellow paint, as I did not like to go back to the original Medium Brown Metallic finish and I liked the look of the yellow combined with the white interior.
At the same time many parts were painted like the fender extensions or blacked out like the grille and the taillight bezels and the taillight panel and a front spoiler and a 1969 Mach 1 hood scoop were added.
The exhaust has Edelbrock mufflers.

The original 302 engine lasted until 2009. I was replaced by a 351W crate engine from Ford Racing. I rebuilt the 302 and it is stored in my garage, so the car can always be put back to original specs.

The car has had so many different rims and tire sizes, that I can hardly keep track. Originally it cam with 15 inch Magnum 500s that had been ruined. After that came a succession of Cragar Quick Trick, Center Line Auto Drag, and others. On some of the pictures the car has American Racing Torq Thrust wheels that were the wheels of choice for the last few years. Now it has the 18 inch rims, which I doubt will be the end of the line. We'll see. :-)

The car acts as a daily driver in the summer and we often take it on long trips for our holidays. It never let us down and is very reliable. The 18 Inch rims add to the ride quality and it almost handles like a new car.

Update: Over the last month I lowered the car considerably both up front (cut coils) and in the rear (lowering blocks) and changed the front tires to 245/45/18 which lowered it even more.
On top of that I swapped the standard grille for a Mach1 one which changed the overall appearance of the car drastically.

SECOND UPDATE:
the car now has an AOD transmission and the center of the hood has been blacked out because of some delamintation issues with the clear coat. I also have added the Mach1 deck lid stripe which I had to adapt to the convertible's wider deck lid.

Beautiful car man!!... I´ve seen you posting here and there but i never got the chance to take a good look of your car... Amazing!! I love it!!
It seems to be a solid car now so his bad life of crashes, bondo and rust are over... Congrats! you´ve built a great example of a classic but yet modern Mustang convertible!

Enjoy it!

Thanx Guys!
I updated the "Modifications" gallery with two detailed pics of the blacked out grille and taillight panel. The weather was nice today (though cold) so I took it for a ride and took the pictures.

I guess that wheel thing is like women and shoes! :-)

Hi Widowmaker.
Thanx for your interest.
Here's a little something I posted on that subject. It has all the info you need.

Glad you like it! Smile
That pic on the main page of the garage was taken with my IPhone. That's why the quality is not as good as it should be.
