1972 351 ram air
#21
While on this subject, why would I want a 100 dollar Marti report over the 40 dollar one. What is the value of getting higher dollar version. Is there no other resource to get original factory specs and build sheet. It has to be in a Ford DataBase somewhere.

Bright lime 72 Mach 1 with 351C 4V, with summit 600 carb(have a Holley too), Edelbrock dual-plane manifold, Hooker headers, 3 inch exhaust with flowmasters, 17 inch Eleanor wheels, FMX tranny, A/C, P/S, front disks and 350 rear gear. Drive it to work every day.

Marti bought the old data from Ford
He also bought the window stickers from Lois E
At one time you could get a 999 report from Ford - not sure if they do that anymore
I get the 45.00 Marti report - it shows enough for my needs.

Will the 40 dollar report tell me if my car had a/c, Power disk brakes, stripe kit, rear wing and front spoiler, correct interior and all the stuff the door tag does not?

So what am I missing then. What do I get that I don't get from the 40 dollar deluxe report? I read the different items and it seemed the deluxe had information I would care about. Is it the how many cars had this information which does not really add any value?

That's correct...if you later decide you want the statistics and a few more dates you can pay the difference and get the deluxe.

See if this helps. It depends on the model, options and rarity of the Mustang. According to Hagerty and current trends, Ram air does add value to the mustang.

1972 Ford Mustang Convertible 8-cyl. 351cid/266hp 4bbl Cobra Jet $20,778

1972 Ford Mustang Convertible 8-cyl. 351cid/275hp 4bbl Ram Air $15,962

Here is one difference where the Cobra Jet value was more that a Ram Air equipped mustang.

You might try swapping to the 2v Heads, I had a 72 Mach 1 351C 4V with Boss Cam, headers, 600CFM Holley, and it ran much better around town and more low end torque with the 2v heads.  I had both sets so experimented and ended up taking off the 4v's and selling them.

A very old thread.
On the subject of adding HP or not and comment made about the small intake area in the hood as opposed to some you see on race cars way up high and huge.
The instructor at the local Blue Ridge Technical College in Automotive mech. was a racer at Bonneville salt flats. He holds several class records in a very small CI class I think 250 CI or less. He has gone over 200 mph with the car. A Mustang II body with a modified Chevy SB, programmable fuel injection.
For years he had one of the tall hood scoops like you see on drag cars. A friend of his that works at the Ford wind tunnel in Atlanta convinced him to build another hood and use the NASA hood scoop design. So he left for Bonneville with both hoods to run.
He made several runs with his old hood and got everything in tune and was like his normal runs in past. So all he did was change to the NASA style hood and scoop much smaller and flat on the hood like our cars. He made a pass and the scoop pulled so much more air that it melted a piston and blew the engine. The fuel air mixture got way more air. So the NASA developed shape was for a reason to get the most air in as possible. Was not for looks on the side of a rocket.
BTW I have one of the 4-V 351 C that came with Ram Air in 72. Is the German model T-5. I bought the car for drive train and parts so not a restored car. Some say only the export models with 4-V got the ram air. Marti says that 306 hard tops, 1,796 fastbacks and 78 verts got the Ram Air hood in 72.
I have had ram air on AC car and there was no clearance issue with the Plenum. It was a Ford system not repo.
