1971 rear window with defrost
#1
I just scored a rear window with factory tint and rear defrost with wires off of craigslist for free the guy was cleaning out his garage and said merry Christmas you can just have it and shook my hand. I cant believe it. Its in great shape. Does anyone know how much it would have cost if i had paid for one. I will post some questions about running wires to it and where to get the switch and where it mounts when i go to put it in i will post pics later this was a great christmas present from a stranger i never expected it when i went to look at it.

This is more than a hobby, its a Passion, its a way of life.

Not sure how much it would have cost you but they are fairly rare, especially on a fastback. Are you intending on installing this on your Mustang? This is a high current drain device and requires specific wiring, switch, relay, indicator light, and high amp alternator. This is not a simple swap in type option and can lead to some unfortunate results if not done properly.

Interesting.

Ward's database does not show any Mustangs with rear defrost. And the first year a Crown Victoria shows a rear window defogger is 1979.

Not that I wouldn't install it in a hearbeat...but question OEM.

in the book I posted in the WiKi section, in 1972 the rear window defroster was an option, the rear window defogger was not available.

Sounds like Ward failed to do his homework. My Mach 1 has a rear window defroster verified on the Eminger invoice.

Yep - I agree with you. Mine still actually works. Just put a new switch handle on it. They seem to get broken off easily.

Congrats on the find. My very early 71 Mach 1 (C6 car below) has the rear defrost option. I agree that it would be somewhat involved to swap it in but go for it.
