1971 Mustang Convertible
I found it in a barn, stored for about 38 years. Rebuilt the motor to Boss 351 specs, 10.7:1 compression. Updated to a full roller cam. Replaced exhaust with 2 1/2 inch 316 stainless steel. Magniflow mufflers. Has the factory dual point distributor, and factory alum. intake. Added chin and rear spoilers, Shelby style roll bar (1987) and sequential tail lights. Have not waxed it yet, trying to deside if the original paint is good enough. Replaced the top with the same black canvass type as my BMW Z-4M has, and the glass window. Paxton supercharger. This car has a sticker in the front of the drivers window that reads " Ford Marketing Research Corporation". I can not find out anything about this organization.

Would you like to sell it? No, of course not. I wonder if it was a possible Shelby marketing exercise? (did you install the roll bar?) When Ford stopped its racing and hi performance involvement at the end of the 60's it may have been "orphaned" and someone hid it away....(rather than see it crushed) Any history? Either that or you're pulling our legs!

SURE! Everything is for sale. I will probably have it on ebay pretty soon. I did install the roll bar, although I saved the original rear interior quarter panels. I liked the angle of the '87 bar, as it more closely followed the angle of the windows. I was able to install the shoulder seat belts as well. I would like to install the "Hockey Stick" stripes, and the lower black out on the body. Soon. Gotta make a paint or not decision. I have a complete, documented history. I am the second owner. It was, and verified by the Marty report, a 'Sales ordered car". After almost a year as the San Jose California dealership demo car, The sales manager sold this car to his niece. My theory is the Marketing Research people may have 'freshened up' the car for the kid. Do you know who the Ford Marketing Research Corporation is? There was a death, and I bought the car in a lien sale from the company who had leased out the barn it was stored in. I am not pulling your legs. Thanks for asking! Regards, Mark

Could you post a pic of the Marti report? (and more of the car) This is one that you probably should add to the Sites Marti Registration area.

There are people here who know a heck of a lot more than me about these cars.... You may not want to mess with the paint.

What was the engine code? Did you add all the performance stuff or find it that way? How early was the production date.... Even if it's "just" a loaded up demo/showroom car it has a history of sorts....

How does it run?? Isn't the Paxton a bit much with that kind of compression? Any Dyno runs?

Grant

Hello Grant, Thank you for your response. I am trying to post more pictures, I pulled it out of the garage and went sideways around the block! It is an 'M' code motor. I added the roller cam when rebuilt, because of the zinc additive missing in the oil now days. I saw the Gas Monkey episode with the flat cam. Its a 07/07/71 production date. No dyno test. It runs good, a little scarry, strong! But I am tempted to install a fuel injection unit so the wife can drive it without starting/flooding/carburator stuff issues. Regards, Mark

Hi. I just saw this post! Yes, this is the same car! Somehow I missed all this correspondence back in 2014 on the 7173Mustangs site. Mark White was the guy who posted the car on Ebay. I only came to be involved with the car after it was already on Ebay. I would think the buyer will eventually make his way to this site if he hasn't already. Thanks for sending this. Kevin.

A 7/7/71 build date means it was one of the last cars off the line for 71 model. As the model change is during the July 4 plant shut down. Sometimes they just put parts on that are left over at the end and not a dealer order just a build out. Hope they did not paint that would kill the value, only original once then just another restored car. All the modifications also hurt the price in a collectors eyes.
BTW the last 73 built was a Cougar Convertible located at NPD in Charlotte has a few hundred miles on it.

When a man is in the woods and talks and no women are there is he still wrong??

How much of the car can you paint before it's not original
