1971 Mach 1 stripe question
#1
I If the Marti report doesn’t state that it came with the stripe does it definitely mean that it did not come from factory?

classicsguy, Since the body side tape stripe was only standard on the Boss 351, if on your vehicle it would be listed as "Body Side Tape Stripe" under the "Your vehicle was equipped with the following features" on your Marti Report.
In 1971 the stripe was only available as an option on the 71 Mach1. The 71 Spring Sprint was a coupe only release and was the only other way to get the Boss style stripes on anything other than the Boss or a Mach 1.    Smile

Steve,
It would still have the Mach 1 logo on the front fender just no stripe correct?

Thanks for the info Steve! No mention of tape stripe on the Marti.

The give-away; does it have the bright molding along the bottom? If it does, then it did not have stripes from the factory, but they could be dealer added I guess.
My 71 Mach 1 was a basic plain jane, no nothing in other words. I retained the stripes and hood black-out (from the first repaint job before I bought it) as I feel that's what the car should have had. Besides, on the Light Pewter, it really needs something to contrast the paint. I also retained the bright work because it is easier to leave it than remove it and have to weld up all those clip holes. Besides no-one but us really knows anyway.

David, The "Mach 1 and Mustang" fender decal are the standard model identification nomenclature for the 71-72 Mach 1. There was also a "Mach 1" decal centered on the rear of the deck lid along with a stripe that was on both quarter panel extensions and  on the rear of the deck lid.
As posted earlier, in 1971 the body side stripe was an option ONLY on the Mach 1 and was standard on the Boss and the coupe only 71 Spring Special Value Mustang. I believe the Special Value coupe was available from March through May 1971. available from March through May, 1971. this offer was available from March through May, 1971.

Here is a pic of a pewter 1971 Mach 1 that obviously should not have side stripes.  See the trim mentioned earlier by Secluff.

My 71 was a base model no option Mach. Trim and stripes are as-factory without a tape stripe.

Hemikiller,
That's how mine would have looked, except black accents, but lets face it, these huge slab sides NEED something to break them up, so why not add the stripe if you like it...… no matter what 71-72 it's on. On a 73, not so sure, but people do it regardless.

Geoff,

Already had the stripes and spoilers. Kinda done with that look, wanted something simple and clean this go around. Might do the TuTone hood though, still mulling that over.
