17 inch wheels vs 18 inch wheels?
#1
I was so set on 17x8 (245/45-17) for the front and 17x9.5 (275/40-17) for the rear of my '73. I've now been looking at 18 inch wheels and noticed I can go a bit wider in the back with an 18. Since I've received so much input from everyone here, I would like your opinion. 17x8 vs 18x8 for the front and 17x9.5 vs 18x? for the rear? Thanks everyone. Happy Turkey Day...

It´s up to you. 18 will clear the upper ball joints more easily up front.
In the back you will need more tire on a 17 than on an 18 inch rim, if you want to fill the space. a mix of 17 front and 18 in the back will look good, but you need to get a bigger wheel diameter in the back in that case.
in any case you will want to lower the car a little, otherwise the side wall of the tire will look to small, and the stance won´t look right.
If I was to get new wheels I´d keep the 18 up front but go 19 in the back, but that is just me.

As A Daily Driver, #1 Rule of Thumb:

The bigger the wheel, the more susceptible to damage when you hit the inevitable pothole, unseen curb, or just misjudge that parallel parking job. And, I am sure your wife/future wife is not as good a driver as mine. So, good luck with that.

At 18", There just isn't enough rubber on that sidewall. Wheels are expensive. Repairs to them are costly. And when you have that rim scratch, dent or ding, it will be evident you are a poor schmuck driver.

I judge a man's driving ability by the shape of his front right wheel.

Well I don't know how well anyone else's wife drives. But you're assuming mine will be driving mine...lol.
I actually liked the idea of more than a 275 in the rear. I guess I have some thinking to do. Thanks everyone.
