VIP Weekly Fun Question for 3-31-2012
SUPERSTARS!

Specifics on the VIP Weekly Fun Question (VIP WFQ) can be found under the "Important Threads" section of the Weekly Fun Question Forum.

The Question:

Which of the following application(s) did not come from the "Factory" with four-bolt main caps?

a. 1971 M-Coded Convertible with a C6 Transmission

b. 1972 H-Coded Fastback with an FMX Transmission

c. 1972 Q-Coded Mach 1 with a Wide Ratio Toploader Transmission

d. 1973 H-Coded Hardtop with a C6 Transmission

Good Luck!

BT
The desired response is "a, b and d." Contrary to what some may have believed, the 1971 M-Coded Mustangs were not touted as having come from the "factory" with 4-bolt mains. That motor's "claim to fame" (other than it being a 351C) primarily has to do with the fact that it came with the quench chambered heads. By the same token, none of the H-Coded Mustangs were advertised as having four bolt mains, from the Factory.

A, B, and D

4-bolt Mains While the 4-bolt main caps are found on only some of the 351C-4V engines, all 351C blocks are cast with provisions to accept the caps. The registration saddle is machined the same wide size as the 4-bolt engines. The supporting bulkheads are the same as the 2-bolt blocks, allowing the extra holes to be drilled and tapped.
4-bolt main bearing caps are used to support higher horsepower and continued high speed operation.

These are found on:

R-code Boss 351, 1971
R-code 351 HO, 1972
Q-code 351 CJ, 1971-73

A , B and D did not come with four-bolt main caps.

I think only R and Q code came with 4 bolt main caps.

BT posted the question at 6:16 local time this morning. I was awake, but didn't think about the WFQ THAT early. Dodgy

My answer is B - pretty sure it would have to be an H code.
