73 Mustang will not Charge
#1
bulb
OK.. After spending 600 (battery, alternator cable, voltage regulator, etc.) trying to figure out why my car would not charge the battery... Found out that if the bulb in the Alternator Idiot Light is burnt out the car will not charge..... I had to share as I searched and searched to find the solution only to have my brother in law talk to a old school mechanic and he said... Bet you 1000 it is the bulb...

You went with a new solid state regulator, right? I have heard of the bulb being an issue with the new regulators, but not the 'old' mechanical points type.

I see this is your first post so welcome to the site! For a proper welcoming to the site post up an introductory thread here:

Glad you found the problem and on the bright side you shouldn't have to worry about your charging system for a long time.

this is also why I did not change the alt globe to led ... I believe it needs to be 2 way...
Mind you with the new 1 wire alt I have, the globe alt indicator light is not inline with the alt, it's just an indicator...

Buy that crap off rock auto. 600 bucks for all that is too much. Thanks for the charging info.
