What's a fair price for this 72 Mustang Sprint?
#1
This 72 Mustang Sprint has been sitting at this old garage for about 8 years, I've seen it since I was a kid. I've been told it runs, but haven't checked it out, the interior was mostly there but is stained beyond saving probably. I assume it'll need new carpet, headliner, upholstery etc. Wondering what price I should be thinking before going to look at it. Notice the dent in the back quarter panel, that concerns me investment wise

I'll let others chime in on what they believe the car should be worth. However, the dent in the quarter doesn't concern me as much as the rocker panel rust and possible torque box rust from what i can see here.

If you can get for for nothing and restore it you could still be underwater in your investment. If you get it for $4K and spend $6K fixing it up it will be worth $10K. If you do it right and spend $16K it might be worth $20K. Anyway you look at it do not buy it for an investment. Buy it because you cannot find a really nice one for $20K and you can get this one to that level in a year or two. You also did not say if its a 351 2 or 4v or 302 or auto or manual as that would affect the value. The seller probably thinks it is worth more than it is so good luck negotiating and tell them the rear spolier is on backwards while you're at it. Rolleyes

If it's a 351c 4v with a/c 3k max and that depends on how much rust it has.

That a good starting point. Assume everything that has seals of fluids leaks to include the radiator, carb, engine gaskets, trans pan, rear axle seals, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, heater core, etc. Then there is the gas tank and brake lines and hoses and we could go on and on.

What are they asking for it? And BTW welcome to the forum. When you get a chance post an introduction so everyone can welcome you

The Sprint appears to be worthy of saving, but bears closer inspection. Just be aware that your investment will probably be more than you could realize in a resale, with that said, the value of the Sprint will increase with your restoration efforts. As with most of us here, we end up with more invested in the car that it will be ultimately worth. But they should not depreciate like a late model car will.

If you can see the tag on the drivers door you can get the numbers and decode the basics from an online data decoder.

before any offers, and after you ask if the person would even want to sell it. i would want it up on a lift and looking at how gone the undercarriage was.
i've seen sprints for sale from 3-25K they are rare but that doesn't mean value.

like vamach1 said he could give you the car and you would start under water big time.
